IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Who lives on the farm and what is daily activity like?
Currently, Mark lives on the farm with a constant stream of volunteers. These volunteers range from high schoolers in nearby Efrat to Tel Avivians with flexible work schedules. Each day, the sheep are grazed for two three hour sessions. Volunteers come to help with the grazing, building terraces for the trees that we planted, and security at night. Some mechina students come to the area to learn in the newly built beit knesset (synagogue).
  • Is this legally Israel and is it safe?
Yes- our farm is part of Efrat and was bought before the creation of the State by Jews. There are four Arab villages that neighbor The Eitam (along with Efrat) that are, for the most part, friendly towards Israel. We are making every attempt at good relations with the neighboring Arab villages, including hiring locals when we can and coffee sitdowns with heads of villages. However, we are prepared in case there are issues. The Israeli army is present in the area and the farm has it's own defense mechanisms. Our goal is to continue developing the land while providing opportunities for improved relations.
  • Are you planning on doing more than sheep?
Yes! Besides the animals, we have built a Beit Knesset and host lectures, Shabbatons and day trips for volunteering or celebrations. We have been fortunate enough to host a Bat Mitzvah, a bachelor party, and many groups. People really enjoy planting, eating, and learning the history in such a Biblical and rustic area. With such a massive area, we are interested in other ideas that will be good for the development of the Eitam... if you have any ideas that you want to implement- big or small- do not hesitate to reach out to discuss!
  • Are the sheep named?
Only one- Nechama. She has the most personality of the group. After that, we are offering naming rights for $50. It's a unique gifting opportunity and we will provide updates on your named sheep.
